Coming 2027 to Oak Hill WV

Something strange is stirring in Oak Hill, West Virginia. Dark Holler: A Museum of the Mystery is coming — a deep dive into the cryptids, hauntings, folklore, and unexplained phenomena that have always lived just past the edge of the firelight in these mountains.

Additionally, the West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Museum is here to feed your stomach and your soul — honoring the humble, legendary roll that kept coal miners going.

two museums

Dark Holler is a ticketed experience — your admission goes toward keeping the lights on (and occasionally, deliberately off).

The West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Museum, on the other hand, is free and open to everyone.

An immersive, atmospheric journey through the cryptids, hauntings, folklore, and unexplained mysteries that have always lurked in the West Virginia mountains.

Pepperoni Roll Museum

Part food history, part love letter to Appalachian domestic life — the West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Museum tells the story of the miners, the wives, and the simple act of feeding someone you love.

Try to survive in the coal camps

Coal Country is a free browser game inspired by the spirit of Oregon Trail — but set in the hardscrabble world of early 1900s Appalachia.

Choose your role — coal miner or miner's wife — pick your camp, and select your heritage from the rich mix of ethnicities that built these mountains.

Then try to make it through. The choices are yours. The odds are historical. Play for free, right here.

From the creators of Appalachian Escapes

Rachel Adkins and Nate Adams are a husband-and-wife team behind the short-term rental company Appalachian Escapes. They've created six unique properties in the New River Gorge area — including four fully immersive themed experiences: the Game House, the Wizard House, the 80s House, and the beloved Mothmanor.

Rachel leads the creative vision while Nate handles the build, and together they've developed a rare skill set that sits right at the intersection of construction and storytelling.

Dark Holler and the West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Museum are their most ambitious projects yet — born from a genuine love of this region, its history, and the people who call it home.
